Buckmore Park Junior Championship - Round 2

Updated: Jun 4, 2022

We was back at Buckmore Park today for Round 2 of the Championship and I was hoping for a much better performance than the last round. I'd seen from Buckmore's Insta account that the track had been resurfaced in places and they had a new shiny fleet of Sodi RT10's so was really excited to be racing these.

I absolutely LOVED the RT10's. They were awesome to drive and I felt that they were easier for me to steer as opposed to the RT8's. The new surface was 100% more grippier where it had been resurfaced, so I was so pleased.

Heat 1 I started P6 on the grid. I knew that the kart that I was in was fast as I topped the time sheets in the practice so this gave me the confidence to make the moves to make my way through the pack. I got off to a really good start and made moves straight away and after a few laps was leading the race and managed to pull a comfortable gap finishing the race over 8 seconds clear of P2.

Heat 2 I was starting towards the back of the grid in P15 and finished P6. Had some really good battles and at one point wasn't sure I was going to make as much progress as I did but was happy with the result.

Heat 3 I started P7 and finished P4, I was running in P3 but again lost it on the final lap and had to settle for P4. I had some great battles with some of the Brentwood Seniors on track but in the end run out of time.

I managed to secure Pole for the final and was given the same kart as I had in Heat 1, so I was pretty confident that as long as I got off of the line well and lead into the first corner then I could get away from the pack. I was also hoping that as Mikey was following Nathan, Nathan would have to go defensive which would then allow me to pull a gap which is what happened. The battle for 2nd, 3rd & 4th was huge and in the end I won the Final by over 15 seconds and got to share the podium with Nathan & Mikey.

A great result for me after the disastrous Round 1 performance, claiming 112 points and moving myself up into 4th in the league. Looking forward to Round 3 in May.
