British Schools Karting Championship - National Finals

Updated: Jun 21, 2022

The long awaited final was finally here. We made the long journey all the way from Essex to Warrington which on a normal day should have taken 4.5hrs but today to add to the drama it took 6hrs. This meant that we didn't have time to stop on the way for lunch or I would have missed my practice session.

The Practice session went really well and I got a new PB round the track, this then gave me confidence that we could do well in the Championship. After my practice we left the track for a while to go and finally grab some food ahead of the main event.

The first session out was just a practice and was pleased to have finished 3rd in this and was making moves and overtaking so felt confident for the Heats.

For Heat 1 I started out last on the grid in P14. This was going to be a tough start to the Championship for me, but knew that I had really good pace in the practice and was quicker than most on the grid, so all I needed was a good start and a decent kart. The good start didn't happen unfortunatley, but I did make up a single position. As the laps went on my kart was just getting quicker and quicker and I actually set my fastest lap of the Championship in my first heat a 59.785 and I finished up P4.

Heat 2 I started out P8 on the grid. I got off to a really good start and again was making my way steadily through the pack. Towards the end of the race I made a move for the lead and was deemed that a penalty should be given however, this penalty was not communicated to me and despite having the lead for a number of laps was not shown a penalty board therefore although I won the race, I was demoted down to P4.

Heat 3 I started out P9 on the grid. Despite getting myself up to P5 in the race, there was lots of contact that went unnoticed and I dropped down the order to finish the race in P10, I was so disappointed and by this point wasn't sure that we would make the podium.

In the end, as a team we collected 131 points, this would have been more if we hadn't received penalities after the race but in the end we DID make the podium.

Think our faces showed how shocked we were to make the podium
