Brentwood Karting Race League - Season 8 - Round 8

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

We were back at Brentwood again today for Round 8 of the Championship and it was always going to be a tough round as I was facing a 5 place grid penalty following last week win.

During the Quali session I thought that I had really messed up the lap as going into the last corner I hit the barrier, so I was surprised that I actually got the lap time I did and had pole position.

I got off to a really good start, lead going into the first corner and stayed that way for the whole of the heat, so was great to get P1 as it was a solid start to the Round.

Following on from the Heat 1 win, I was then starting at the back of the grid for Heat 2 in P13 and needed to get as far up the grid as possible to ensure a good starting position for the final.

The start was pretty chaotic with lots of contact but managed to get through without too many problems, but as it took longer than I would have liked to get through the pack, the best I could manage was P3. All in all, it was a pretty solid performance and I was happy with that.

As I had a 5 place grid penalty for my previous weeks win, I was starting the A Final in P5. I personally prefer starting on the inside of the track as if you get stuck on the outside you can lose quite a few positions off of the start, so I was happy with that.

I got off to a really solid start and the kart I had had great pace and was moving up the grid. The point that it all went completely wrong was when I was making a move to take the lead of the race. I was coming up to Swimming Pool with Rory in front of me and I was on his inside. He checked his outside and didn't see me there, so checked his inside line, see me there and started moving over to cover his line, but I was already moving up the inside and he spun. This was deemed to be my fault, which I didn't really agree with, but either way was handed a 9 place ABC and at that point the race was over for me. I managed to finish in P9 and was so disappointed, but will be back next week to try again for the win.
