Brentwood Karting Race League - Season 8 - Round 5

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

We was back at Brentwood for Round 5 of the Championship this week and it was a really tough week. As soon as I was out on track, I wasn't happy with the kart I had, it lacked any straight line pace and I was being overtaken on the straights.

I completed the Quali session and bought the kart into the pits to change out of it, only to be told that as I had set a Quali lap in the kart I couldn't change out out of it. This didn't help my mood & frustrations! So I headed over to the grid, starting P6.... this was going to be a long day.

From the start I struggled with the pace of the kart but managed to hold my position off of the line. There was quite a few people making contact ahead of me and I took advantage of this and started moving my way up the grid. In the end the best I could do was P2.

Heat 2 was up next and I was starting P9 on the grid. It took a few attempts to get underway as the rolling starts were not successful on the first few attempts. I got a good start and made up initial positions but was getting hit from all directions. I managed to get back into position going into Paddock but was spun out, so again had to start all the way from P9 again. In the end the best I could manage was P5.

Due to my grid penalty from the previous weeks P2 and the poor results on the day, I was starting 4th in the B Final which I think has actually been my lowest starting position this season.

Once the B Final was underway it was a difficult start, dropping down the order as I was on the outside of the track. After the first few corners I had made the positions back and was back into P4. It took quite a few laps before I started making progress through the pack but ran out of time in order to take the win which I needed to get myself back into the A Final, in the end settling for P2 in the B Final, not the round that I was hoping for. Next week I will be missing karting as I will be at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone which I can't wait for.

I'm hoping that the week off will reset me and I will come back stronger for the remainder of the season.
