Today we was back at Brentwood Karting for Round 2 of the new Championship and I was in for a tough week following my win last week as I was facing a 5 place grid penalty.
The first kart that I was given had a puncture in one of the earlier sessions so when I went out in it, it was cold so I wasn't holding out much hope that it would be quick in the qualifying session as the other karts had all been warmed up. To my surprise I actually got the pole position, I was really shocked as I messed up at the end of the lap so I thought I would only be 3rd at the best. I got off to a really good start and kept the lead throughout, taking the first heat win which was exactly what I needed to minimise the grid penalty that was coming my way.
In Heat 2 I was starting at the back of the grid in P11 due to the previous win and again needed a strong result. The Heat got underway on the first attempt and I didn't get the best of starts. As the race progressed I made my way up and down the pack and in the end settled for P2 but was closely on the tail on my pal Alfie, who claimed his first Race League Heat Win, congrats mate!
Due to the grid penalty I was starting the A Final in P7. My aim for the day was all about damage limitation as a 5 place penalty is quite a difficult one to come back from but was feeling confident that I could get a top 5 finish.
We had a Le Man Reverse Track Final. I got a really good getaway, that was until I was pushed into huge puddle and then got spun going round the corner which pushed me from P5 all the way back to P10..... GREAT! So all the hard work then started. I made some great moves and clawed my way to P5 but the kart just didn't have the pace that I needed to get any further up.
All in all I was pleased with the result, my aim for the day was a Heat Win & a top 5 finish, both of which was achieved and 28 points banked for the weekend and I am still jointly leading the Championship with no grid penalties next week, not a bad finish to the weekend!
